Emirates SkyCargo, Cargolux sign code-share deal
Emirates SkyCargo announced on Tuesday it has entered into a code-share partnership for air cargo transportation with Cargolux Airlines, the Luxembourg-based carrier.
The code-share deal follows an announcement earlier this year that the two companies will start an operational partnership that will see the two carriers working closely on various areas.
These areas of cooperation include block space and interline agreements, aircraft charter, hub connectivity between Dubai and Luxembourg, and cargo handling cooperation.
Emirates SkyCargo has already commenced weekly freighter services to Luxembourg. Cargolux is expected to transfer handling for their freighter flights to Emirates SkyCargo in September 2017.
Since July 2017, Emirates SkyCargo has also chartered Boeing 747 freighter aircraft from Cargolux's fleet.
Under the partnership, both carriers will now be able to procure cargo capacity on each otherÔ??s flights and then offer it to their customers under their own bills and flight numbers.
The code-share agreement will be applicable for cargo capacity on both passenger as well as freighter flights, Emirates said in its statement.
Emirates added that SkyCargo and Cargolux will "continue to explore opportunities to further strengthen their operational partnership and build on mutual strengths."
"We have achieved a number of the milestones that we had targeted at the outset. We will now be able to deepen this partnership through our code-share agreement and offer a more seamless and broader range of product and service offerings to our customers," said Nabil Sultan, Emirates divisional senior vice president for cargo.
