To deal with last mile delivery blues, Blue Dart launches locker services
As demand for e-commerce picks up, Blue Dart has launched locker services in cyber city Gurgaon to deal with last mile hitches such as people not being at home, or difficult to find addresses. These lockers are simple to operate and secure - can be opened with a mix of airway bill number and an OTP delivered on your phone after you key in the airway bill number. They can also be used to return the shipment. This is the first such service of Blue Dart although in Europe such services are pretty popular. They include such services of German logistics major DHL, which has a controlling stake in Blue Dart. In India, many e-commerce firms have launched such services. Additionally, in tier 2, 3, and 4 cities, Blue Dart is looking to tie up with shops that will act as parcel pick up centres. It is also planning to launch fulfilment centres near Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
